Drivers door handle
« on: 11 September 2007, 16:06:18 »

I thought I had fixed something without having to ask today. The drivers side door handle stopped opening the door. I took off door card and saw that the horizontal rod had moved to the left and was not engaged with the mechanism on the right. I knocked the rod back to the right as far as I could and this fixed it.

I have just gone out and after a couple of uses it has done it again. I can't think of a way to secure it in position. Is there meant to be a circlip or similar which has come off?

Yes there's a little plastic clip thing that rotates out of the way to remove the rod, and should be pushed back into place once the rod is in place. It's not designed to come off completely so yours may be broken. It's located where the rod attaches to the handle.

The door rods are held into there positions with white plastic clips which spin round and lock the rod into position, if the clip is missing the rod will just fall out again, try looking in the bottom of the door for the remains of the clip. :y

I checked in the door 1st and there was nothing obvious there. I have just had another go at it and this time it should be fixed.
The rod has 2 little lugs. The first fix I did, I didn't notice these. I tried squeezing the rod in with mole grips, but it wouldn't go far enough. Got my wife to lift the handle as I closed the grips and it locked back into place.

I'll keep an eye on it, but looks like a permanent fix.

Thanks for replies
