3.2 timing belt problem
« on: 09 September 2007, 13:21:04 »

Hi folks im doing a 3.2 Omega engine conversion on my Vectra at the moment. I bought a GM timing belt kit for it and took on the challenge of doing it myself.

Anyway heres my problem, in the picture

Roller guide G1 that i removed from the engine had an eccentric hole which could be adjusted for tensioning  purposes.

The new roller that was supplied in the kit has a central hole so there can be no adjustment made on it.

Has there been changes to the timing belt setup from vauxhall or have i the wrong part?

Also my instructions for fitting the kit relate to the adjustment of this rolller so if vxl have changed things has anyone got the updated fitting guide for this..

Also my belt doesnt have timing marks on it for initial setup either which i find strange.

thanks in advance

Oh dear. Seems a lot of the vauxhall belts have no markings. I have just done my 2.5 and the kit cam with the eccentric hole for adjustment.
I know from watching the DVD that there are 2 different types of kit.

Are you using a v6 locking kit?

I am sure someone with more knowledge will help shortly.

yeah im using the sykes pickavant v6 locking kit.

Seems like vxl are cutting corners, u dont wanna be doing that on such a critical part of the engine.

See here :- http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1186345510/6#6I also had a potential issue but fortunately my 2.6 was the earlier version which has the adjustable idler. They changed over at about engine number 8570000 or somewhere very close to the non adjustable one.  Did you get your kit from VX or a factors - cause you'll get the non marked belt also.  See Nickbats post - is very good reading and very educational - especially Kevin Woods input

yeah cheers for that folks, find it strange how the new kit from vxl doesnt have the adjustable g1 pulley with it because thats whats on the car at the moment.

How can i retard it 10 degrees from TDC, when the crankshaft locking tool is in place as well as the cam locking tools. Im not really wanting to remove all that while there is no belt etc in place. You be as well throwing the locking kit in the bucket than attempting VXL's cowboy idea of a belt change.

Maybe im being silly, i dunno....lol

Is it really that bad a job to do now!!!!, is there any document that i could print off so i have it beside me when attempting this suicide mission...lol

cheers for the comments

There is a DVD available showing the Omega cam belt change for £3.00
It show some of the experianced member doing the change.
Look for member Robin Hood.

Dont expect it has the new belt.

While its a stripped down worth considering changing the water pump as TC only £30.00ish
If that goes it will need to be stripped  down again?

You have a 3.2

The roller G1 is NON ADJUSTABLE on this model, which means that someone has fitted the wrong one in the past! (Probably VX main agent)

This is the most annoying one to change of all, so sit back and get ready to curse and swear a lot!!!

10 degrees is when the crank locking tool left hand edge is vertical.

Ronald cheers for the pm's,

Ok then

TIS2000, Autodata 2005 pc version and the Autodata manual and the sealey engine timing locking kit instructions show the 3.2 omega (y32se) engine to have an Eccentric Tensioner on pulley G1 and the fitting guide relates to this as part of the installation.

But the Vectra C 3.2 (z32se)  shows a normal non adjustable pulley and relate to turning back the crankshaft 10 degrees etc etc for the setting up procedure.

I have the Y32se engine and my engine code matches the timing belt kit part number 93172354<<<<<< This is the same part number for the Vectra C 3.2v6 engine. ( the one without the eccentric tensioner)

So am i right in saying i should follow the fitting guide for the Vectra instead??

Job done!!  ;D

Anyway i followed the fitting instructions for doing a Vectra C 3.2 v6 as it was the same kit  part number for that as it was for the Y32se.

Everything lined up perfect first time considering there was no marks on the belt, had a little adjustment on the tensioner after a good few turns so im pretty pleased considering ive never seen inside a timing belt case before....lol

Well done. I think you're ahead of the crowd doing a 3.2 cambelt - most people on here have 2.0/2.5/3.0's.
