Believe so, if its an AR25 / AR35 then yes I think so.

It's the gearbox ECU that's updated, not the Engine Management.

Much smoother operation, there are some threads dotted around on General Chat that give peoples opinions, i've never read a bad report!

Marks DTM & The Boy can do the update, VX would charge a lot more but I guess it's all down to geography and how far you could travel.

Seem to remember that the ability to upgrade gearbox ECU is dependant on the age of the vehicle
I think TB knows what can & cannot be upgraded

post 98 cars have flashable gearbox ECUs...

Although the ECUs are identical, obviously a different calibration file (map) is used in the gearbox ECU depending on the engine type set (eg, not point allowing a TD to rev to 6750rpm before changing up).

Not sure why, but the TD autbox upgrade, though an improvement, isn't as dramatic as the petrol ones...

As I have a 96 TD which is not flashable, if I were to swap the ECU to one from a later TD (post 98) would there be any problem?
I could then get it upgraded couldn't I?

Unfortunately not without a change of ECU and some serious loom modifications! Not worth it, IMO..

This isn't possible - as the later ECU will have a different pin-out.

I investigated this at great length myself once, and cane to the conclusion it would be a huge challenge, and probs not worth it.

Having said that, I may be about to eat my own words. When I was having serious limp mode issues with my 1996 Elite, Mark spent the best part of a Saturday pulling my transmission electronics apart, and I learned heck of a lot.

He even "disected" my gearbox ECU, and pulled the BasicIOS chip out of it, to transplant into another ECU, as part of the troubleshooting process.

Now, I just wonder if you could flash the BIOS on a later ECU with the later firmware, and then plant the chip into an older ECU....
