CHANGED OVER TO SKY
« on: 29 September 2007, 07:57:07 »

Yeah and when they fitted th dish an that last Friday was told the modem for broadband would be sent in the post :y, Signed up for a 326 a month package TV/TALK/SURF :y, got a letter yesterday advising I was on a £21 package :(, Got straight on the phone only to be told it had'nt been signed up for and that broadband was'nt available >:(. Anyway spent an hour on the phone between two idiots, no broadband, just TV and paying more now than what I was with Virgin; Now I have to write into them; my issues
1. I have been mis-sold a product that does'nt exist
2. Was given contradictory information from 2 diferrent reps
3. Want to charge me £17 for broadband

Option B is to just phone up and cancel rather than waste time writing in and quoting trade decription acts and all that :y

This is typical os some so called "Salesman" they will do anything just to get a new Customer,

My advice is to save time and Hassel, (after all its going to be your nerves and not theirs) and just Cancel.

There are enough good Providers out there with skilled salesmen, that will check for Availability before

selling you something >:(

If cancelling is going to leave you out of pocket just phone up your credit card company and stop the payment citing the fact that you didn't get what you were promised, assuming you paid on a card, of course.

Promise to go to trading standards, the local press, etc. If they think you won't take it quietly they'll soon cave in. It's worth it to them to avoid any publicity.

They are crafty bu66ers IME.

You're far better off with cable for broadband if you can get it. I can't get it where I stay now, and the DSL service is rather crap in comparison -- only get around 2Mbps and the latency can be quite horrid at times (which is a nightmare if you're SSHing from a remote location, probably affects games too). My folks place is on cable and they get a proper 10Mbps connection with low latency at all times I've used it. You can be lucky and get a good DSL connection, but cable is quite simply a better technology so unless the ISPs back end is crap it will usually be better and more consistent.

Trouble is, all the cable ISPs (ie NTL/Telewest/Virgin/this weeks name) do have crap back end. Hence why they have to use transparent proxies.

DSL does mean picking an ISP that is going to be suitable/near you if you need low latency. Many DSL providers keep their equipment in Telehouse, but some others keep locally.
