Steam from Bulkhead!
« on: 03 October 2007, 20:30:08 »

Need some help please.

My omega 2.2 v6 auto decided only 2 days ago to throw steam from under the windscreen at the bulkhead somewhere. This happens only after short trips. Just prior to this happening I found puddles of water on the ground under the car. The car does not over heat at the temp gauge stays normal. The heaters are working, well the blow hot and cold air, so I ASSUME THATS NORMAL! I have an orange tint in water in the expantion tank. I dont see any bubbles coming through it though when the cap is off. CAn someone help please.

Thanks

Paul

Fair chance its the heater bypass valve thats failed.

Check out the maintenance guides for a better description of fault and easiest means to repair.....   ;)

I had this on my V6 while doing some work on the HBV.  I needed to cut into the pipes for my LPG install and ended up splashing coolant down the back of the engine.  It turned out to be my shi**y connection which i soon rectified.  You may have a leak around that area.  Also i noticed i am finding it very very difficult to engage gears, 1st and 2sd are quite bad!  I hear that leaks near the HBV can cause this.

In fact, why am i bangin on about gears - you've got an auto!  :-X

Might be worth taking a peek at the rear of the plenum for any leaks.

I dont have a manual to hand so does anybody have any pics or diagrams that would help me locate and replace the HBV? This would be greatly appreciated. Another question: until I can fix this problem at the weekend is there any way of runing the car safely and avoiding the steam issue?

I'd say HBV then , is your water pressurising in the header tank?
