On one occasion for driving the car free from mud (winter time-car cant move) become necessary to close the TC..
Sometimes it can be a little more serious than that.
I nearly lost a rental Peugot 307 Cabriolet off the edge of a cliff in Italy a few years ago because the ESP (Traction Control) kept cutting the power in very precarious situation - very steep gravel road with hairpin bends. I didn't realise it was fitted, the TC cut the power right on one of the last bends. Ttry as I might every time I tried to take off - wheelspin - so it just kept cutting the power, and the car kept rolling back towards the cliff edge. Every attempt bringing me closer to the edge.
In the end I called the local emergency services on my mobile phone (my cousin and some of his men

), who came and rescued me. It was only once I had time to assess the situation, that I realised what that strangely labeled button on the dash did.
