i have been running a K&N filter for the last 18 months on my Omega.

Last Rolling road we did the car was chucking out 178bhp with the filter being the only mod.
Every other car that day was reading pretty much on the button so it may have made a small difference

cone filters will increase the induction noise, this can have the effect of making the car feel faster that it is actually going

I had a K&N panel filter in mine & didn't notice any difference.
I currently have an induction kit & the only difference I can tell is the noise....

Normal induction kits will only make an increase in noise and not power due to sucking in hot air from the engine bay.

Funnel filters are different in the fact that they are sealed when the pipe from the grill is over the end. Therefore only letting in cool air from outside and keeping the hot air out.

Its the best of both worlds , a less restrictive airfilter and cold air!

Your bank balance decreasing by £200...

I see a fair few Omegas, a few with various panels/cones etc.  None are actually quicker that the excellent Vx one (huge surface area), most are slower, including those with cold feeds.  The noise gives a different impression, but the tests on roads around here show (usually) a small decrease...

MAF sensors have sensitive chemical surface..Even used properly, in time will become contaminated by the oil particules in air.

open air filters speed up this reaction..

What would the symptoms be though?

Rough running?

Yes, as ECU will be misfuelling until it decides the MAF is lying (then it will substitute a value, which again won't be ideal feulling by a long shot)

I've had a Green panel filter in mine a few years now. Cheaper than K&N and just as good IMO. I also did not notice much difference, possibly picked up better but that is only subjective.

What did help was adding a second cold air feed to the airbox. Just a few quid for aluminium ducting and a bit of modding. Definately picked up better after that. I'd recommend do this first. There is a How-To over on cavweb.

Since then have 4 bar FPR and filed down some of the lips in the plenum to smooth it off at the same time. Better again. Now picks up so much better than when I first had the car as the power has always been there, just it never felt very "sharp". I must admit I did the cam cover gaskets (leaking) and breathers while I was there so that probably helped a bit too.
