a few problems
« on: 11 October 2007, 20:43:57 »

hi
just bought an omega 2.5 v6 24v elite 131000 on the clock i have no history whatsoever
with the car.
had it one day now and i am more than happy with it
however a few problems i have noticed are
drivers door creaks on closing (which i believe is an easy fix) a strange smell i can only describe as childrens crayons after about ten minutes driving
the passenger and drivers side cabin temp display doesnt light up though you can still see the display(is this just a bulb and is it an easy fix)
i have a warning  on start up telling me i have a problem with my headlight bulb and rear lights (all are ok and light up as they should)
rear passenger window goes down ok but will not close without help
and finally the blaupunkt changer in the boot is missing the cd storage case are they easily obtainable and what should i pay for one

many thanks

Door creak, also known as 'crack of doom'!  Replace the bush before it does further dmage. Guide in Maintenence Guides section.

The climate panel - replace all 5 bulbs. Guide in Maintenence guides.

The lights - double check all 4 tail lights (2 per side), if that doesn't cure, change for Vx bulbs.

Howdoo Mark, welcome.....  Lots of your questions are covered already but, for quickness, eres a summary.  A search will get fuller answers...   :y

Door creak - search for ' crack of doom ' and see whats involved.  Potential cheapest fix on the car (30 pence) or a repair kit which runs to around a tenner.

Strange smell is probably oil leaking from the cam covers.  Pull a plug lead or two off each bank and check for oil at the bottom.  Good howtoo in the maintenance section, use gen VX gaskets only....

Climate Control temp dosplay is just blown bulbs.  Again, a howtoo is here.

Brakelight check warning goes out with first footbrake application.  If the check lamp warnming comes up afterwards then a lamp is blown.  Circuits are sensitive to gen VX lamps and can throw false warnings if non gen lamps used.

Window may need a wee squirt of silicone spray in the running channels to make it run smooth or perhaps the winder motor is weak?

Storage cassettes come up on e-bay now and again but best bet is to advertise in the 'parts wanted' section.  perhaps someone with a broken changer has one for sale??

Most important - CHANGE THE CAMBELT AND TENSIONERS SOONEST AS YOU HAVE NO HISTORY.  IF IT FAILS YOU NOW HAVE AN EXPENSIVE AND LARGE DOORSTOP!!

Check the guides on here for a howtoo.  Not too hard and, no doubt, someone may be able to assist if you are struggling.
