Rattling exhaust
« on: 11 October 2007, 19:52:39 »

Just a quick question.  My exhaust is extremly close to what looks like the drivers side rear wishbone.  There is no more than 5mm (at best) between them with the result being that every little bump i go over causes the exhuast to knock against the wishbone.  It's been like this since i bought the car but i've now finally got round to attempting to sort it.

Should the exhaust be this close?  after having a poke around everything looks like it's in the right place but it just seems odd that it's so close.  I'm hoping it's just the rubber mountings that are worn out and some new ones will sort it.

As for the clearance, i cant remember, i would check but it is a bit dark out there now, if no one else has confirmed i will have a look tomorrow

The seam on the front of the backbox on the drivers side is banging on the (what i think is) the rear wishbone.

Sorry....it does help when i read the post properly....Doh!!!

Yes i would start with exhaust hangers, if these are worn/perished then it will hang a lot lower than normal

Probably a cheap pattern exhaust, they rarely fit well and require 'some persuasion' to gte them to align well.

I had to do a lot of 'adjustments' to the one the project estate.

Rather annoyingly, one job for this weekend is some open can surgery and welding on the internal baffles of the aftermarket exhaust fitted to the runabout......the quality is VERY poor.

You are assuming there is something to weld to!

I don't think it's an aftermarket exhaust as the cans have GM stamped on them.
