no power ???? SLUG
« on: 14 October 2007, 11:11:57 »

My 94 elite has suddenly turned into a slug, it starts off fine then after 15mins or about the eml light comes on and it dies, it will hardly go up a small hill outside my home in drive ( or 1st gear). ive taken it down a dual carriageway and it will not go over 70mph. Any ideas, i know i have to do the clip test but im wondering if anyone can help in the meantime

thanks

Sounds like a cam sensor - best paper clip it first though.

I very much doubt the cam sensor - never known one fail on a V6

You need to read the fault codes before we can progress....

If its any help in the diagnosis, i did smell burning on my last trip, like a mild burnt plastic smell and i looked underneath the car just under the pass side and noticed some smoke, i thought my front downpipe was blowing out but it wasnt a smell you woud associate with exhaust fumes ? just thought i would mention that.

I suspect the plug wells are full of oil, but get the paperclip test done.

144/145 ignore
16 - Knock sensor 1 (cyl 1/3/5)
19 - YOUR CRANK SENSOR IS FUBAR - REPLACE ASAP!!
74 - MAF, ignore for now until other faults retified, and see if still there then.

So, 19, change crank sensor asap. 16, knock sensor, check the connector and the cabling for damage.

Yes. A guide in maintenence guides section of this site. Easy DIY if you follow our suggested route :y

You do need to check over the knock sensor wiring for damage (guessing its touched aux belt at some point), as that will kill performance.
