Coolant Lose !!!!
« on: 17 October 2007, 19:55:56 »

Each day ie 50 mlies, I seen to have lost coolant, about a cup full, a few days ago I did around trip of 650 mlies, lost just a cup full. Changed the HBV (GM part) in April, since then covered 13,000 miles, new cam belt, rollers and tensioner fitted yeserday (129,150 miles) no evidence of coolant leaks anywhere . The temp gauge is fine at 95c or lower. Anyone any ideas please, should I change the HBV again ? were should I look for a leek ?   :(

Some people on here have had problems with HBV not lasting long. Bad batch or ebay ones or something. I think Timbuk was one of them.......

Thanks, yes I read the posts, but this was £28.25 + vat part no  V0090566947 GM Made in Germany part from a Vauxhall stealership (because of the problems with lookalikes), however it could still be crap unit.

The header tanks are known to crack around the filler, coulds be yours is losing pressure there, allowing the water to "boil" away slightly as the pressure in the system is lower than design.

New header tank is very easy to fit .. :)

Try a greengrocer's... sorry couldn't resist  ;D

I have a similar small leak with mine, and recently replaced the HBV even though the old one looked fine. No change, so I'm still trying to pinpoint it. I intend to get it pressure tested when cold which should make it easier to spot (I hope) as the water won't evaporate away.
