EGR - Purple Smoke
« on: 20 October 2007, 19:09:29 »

What are the symptoms of a sticking EGR? ( Purple smoke was just to get you to read the post btw)

Why so I ask?

Well for some time now my car has run with imperceptible fluctuations in the running or the engine, especially when cold and especially downhill when the car is not under load.

It was thought the coil pack was on it's way out but this week it has actually "missed" whilst driving along around 30 on a straight, level road.  This is the 2nd time in two weeks.

It's never missed when I put my foot down and it's not stalling at all anywhere.  So given that it happens when it's often slowing slightly I wondered if the EGR could be a factor?

Questions and suggestions welcome  8-)

Idle smooth using 0.2 mpg on mid with air con and heated seats active - never misses a beat.  Never misses with cruise on a run, just "gentle" driving round town  :-/

Not known a duff coil pack to do that.......duff coil packs usually start giving a weak spark......so is very noticeable underload and low revs......

Is the ecu storing any codes?

No codes last time I had it checked and I tried your acceleration at 1500 revs deal and it ran fine.  Oddly I've just switched fuel to Shell and it seem smoother with better acceleration from go.  MPG not as good as BP though but we'll see.  :-/
