Try a paperclip test first, to check for any stored fault codes, and take it from there.
What engine is it?

The engine is the BMW 25TD and what is the paper clip test . have had the car in vauxalls twice the only fault code that keeps coming up is code 64 and they say that they dont know what is up with it hence the reason why i am now on this site asking peaple like yourselfs .

Code 64 is Fuel Quantity Control Is Out Of Range.

So sounds likes its having a fuel supply problem.

Only time Ive had this.....tho this was on my merc diesel...hot starting problem......it turned out to be the fuel pump.....some muppet (no not me) had bunged some petrol in it.....which destroyed the fuel pump. It would start fine from cold and be a git to start when hot but when it did start it then would run fine. Possibly isnt the pump........im suprised vx didnt suggest changing the pump  ;D as usually vx dealers like changing expensive bits just for fun  ::)

Don't know if this is any use to you but.

2.5 td's frequently suffer from refusal to start when hot. & eml light coming on after decelerating .problem is temp sensor in hp pump, which apparently can be changed with pump in situ, or ecu can be tricked on fuel temp. I did neither and used car as chicken shed .
ps. after sitting two years in drive it started first turn with recharged batt when sold c 600euros.

towards the end of its life I used to lock the doors & leave the engine running if I couldn't afford to wait 2 hrs for it to cool down.
some have got away with changing batt or starter. BTW my no hot start had good lift pump.

Cannot paperclip the 2.5TD, needs a suitable code reader.

HI.

I suffered from this for about a year with all sorts of advice, it would be worst when the fuel level fell to 1/4 or less. I finally solved it by replacing the lift pump in the tank and the fuel filter. Starts first time now. The pump was running but some of the impellor blades were missing. One last tip if you change the pump, be careful not to kink the fuel lines when you put the lid back on the tank, it SERIOUSLY kills your power.

Cheers

That is a classic problem with the TD, though usually affects cold starts as well as hot starts...
