You'll probably have to read the codes, but for starters; check that your brake light bulbs are working (if both are blown the abs light goes on) and have proper contact. When my abs light went on the code reader said that the brake light switch was out, but the real problem was that both bulbs were blown.

Can't guarantee this is your problem, but rule out the easy things before spending money on getting the codes read.

Codes will need to be read.  Before that, worth cleaning sensors and resetting the gap. But doubt that will sort it.  Is it a post 98 model by any chance?

What is the LAST letter in your chassis VIN number V or W?

Sorry prr for the reply delay. The reason I asked is that my car ( a 97) developed a similar problem with the light staying on over longer and longer periods of time after being off for the first few minutes of the day.

I tried all these other suggestions before biting the bullet and changing my ABS ECU out. The later cars 98 on ( final VIN letter W like mine) onwards aparently have a tendency to this problem.

I agree however with the previous posters. Try bulbs, cleaning sensors and so on first.

Hope it is an easy fix. olive
