Well hi all its been awhile.

I have to decide what to do with my omega....

Remember the floods a few months back well i got cought up right in the middle of them driving back from my mates funeral. my omega did me prowed. she went through some of the deepest water i have ever seen and didnt fail once. (which was great you should have seen the coppers faces )
Well anyhow the gearbox failed on my hubby a few weeks after and when i looked at it i found water in the sump. we replaced all the seals/gaskets and the oil and she worked a treat (we also checked the radiator for leaks as this cools the oil but there was no sign off any).

now she will not go into reverse well if we power down she will reverse at a snails pace. i have been advised by my mate to change the oil again. If i do this do i need to replace the seals/ gaskets again? if so where can i get some? any ideas what it could be and is it a job i could do?

my hubby has said to me that he is sick of putting money into her and he wants rid. but in my mind i think we should keep her as i know whats been done to her as an we both really like it. shes a good car and im not going to find a replacement like it(well i dont think so) also its going to be a different car that i would know nothing about.

Help me out guys how much money and work do you think i would need to fix this problem or shell i jump ship now?  :-/
i now live in gosport hampshire is there anyone close by who would be willing to have alook and help point me in the right direction?

New gaskets from JPAT.  Or a replacement AR25 can be picked up cheaply enough.

Even Better, Get an AR35... not a hard job to fit, as its rear wheel drive...

don't waste money on more oil changes, sounds like the gearbox is knackered...

AR 25 is the gearbox, JPAT... jiggly passive async transistor???  

Could the clutch plates be mucked up?  Im having issues with gears at the moment and it's since i spilt a few cups of cooland over the bell housing, apparently it could have muched up the clutch plates??

Question 1 - straight swap. Either will fit, but AR35 is a stronger box

DIY - well, the car needs to be up on axle stands, and the gearbox is a two man (or woman) job...

you'll need at least two good high lift trolley jacks...

I suppose it's just possible that there's still some water in the hydraulics as a considerable amount of fluid stays in the torque converter when the sumps are drained, but I also think it could have suffered irreparable damage when it was misbehaving before, so probably best just to change the gearbox

I was hearing about water in hydraulic systems from an ex-Concorde flight engineer yesterday. Sounds like it's a bit more scary when it happens at mach 2 than it is in an Omega.

yes it is scary. it can down the aircraft if there is a certain % in there. its a major job with the aircraft i work on.

any how looks like i need to sorce a gearbox........... anybody got one going that would fit my beast needs to be an auto. best get the gaskets too...
what about reconing my gearbox oris that v expensive

The longer gearing of the AR35 may not be suited too well to the 2.0l engine, hence why I suggested the cheaper and more plentiful AR25...

I've seen it done before, seemed OK

However, I didn't realise it's a 2.0.. an AR25 will be ample for one of those lawn mowers

well that was uncalled for i think a 2.0l is ample for a chick like me! men their cars have to be bigger and more powerfull .....lol

Only slight risk with an AR25 is that there are likely to be quite a few knackered ones around. Definately try and find one from a 2.0 not a V6, I'd say.
