Is it balancing or wheel bearings?
« on: 09 November 2007, 13:54:45 »

Hi All, new to the site... sorry to say it, but with a little problem...  :-/

I purchased my second omega at the beginning of this week - it is a lovely car..... however I have noticed from 65mph upwards there is a wine and mild vibration from the rear - I have considered this maybe that the car wasnt really driven for some weeks and the wheels/tyres may need rebalancing? secondly a poss that the wheel bearings are worn - however would this create vibration similiar to speed wobble?

Its a 2.6 2002 - if anyone could help I would really appreciate it.

Best wishes

Chris

What I have found when the front wheels need balancing is up to 50-60 you can feel the steering wheel wobbling. Over 60mph usually is the rear wheels feeling a wobble through your seat. I have two slightly buckled rear wheels and you feel the wobble through your seat (even at 99mph ::) and doesn't go away.
As for the wheel bearings I think they can Hum, but if you jack up the rear of your car with your hands at 12 & 6 o'clock see if there is a play.

Sounds very much like wheel balancing, try the spare on each of the rears in turn to see if it reduces
