My Omega 3.0 Elite 1996 vintage is sounding rough and low on power. I have done the paperclip test and with the engine running all I get is code 12 with the engine stopped 12 and 31.

This problem started with a sort of hesitation when driving and has now got worse.

Any pointers?

Pull the plug leads off the plugs and check for oil but i suspect the diss pack is on is way out. Not expensive but a bit fiddly to replace.

Does it have a history of leaking cam cover gaskets or their replacement?

If the leak has been fixed it is possible that the leads have been fried in oil and will break down. The damage may be visible at the plug ends.

If it's still leaking, fix it straightaway.

Set of leads from local factors around £40, fiddle to change.

Looks like the problem is oil. Checked the 3 accessible plugs and the leads were oil soaked. Cleaned these up and a big improvement.

I had the cam covers changed about 4-5 months ago

Did they clean the breathers out at the same time and use genuine parts......if the answer is no then thats why they have failed again.

No, 31 is normal with engine off.

19 is crank sensor knackered.
