I have to ask this ? have you had the leads and dis pack checked or changed and what about the rpm sensor or the cam sensor. if you have a missfire it is unlikly to be an engine fault but more of an electrical ie ht fault. :-?

i have had the dis pack changed, the rocker cover gasket, all the plugs and leads, its had new injectors, valves, 2 pistons and the misfire is still there.
My car is in nationwide autocentres, and they just cannot seem to fix it, after all they have done it still runs very lumpy at idle, and now they say i need a new engine so i am at my witts end with it all lol

Sounds like they don't know what they're doing!

If they've come to the conclusion that it needs a new engine surely they must have arrived at this conclusion through some process of elimination and, assuming they have changed the pistons, they have already stripped the engine down and rebuilt it so if there's a serious engine problem which warrants its replacement why didn't they spot it and rectify it when they had it apart?

That and the fact that they have also changed the injectors makes me think they are changing parts in a pretty haphazard fashion. I'm guessing they've now run out of ideas an have decided it needs a new engine in the hope that the cost will put you off having any more work done!

I'd ask for it back, avoid paying for anything you don't have to on the grounds that they didn't fix it and start the troubleshooting again, based on the help available on this site.

Have they checked or cleaned the breathers or cleaned the icv. this will cause lumpy idle or it could be a bad fuel filter/air filter.

Just noticed your sign in.
Is this mis-fire on petrol or LPG?

Come to think of it,  they have had the heads off and i hope they have replaced the cam belt kit, Have they timed it correctly. if not that will cause lumpy idle. they have replaced valves WHY? were they bent ,if not then they could have lapped them in again, if they were bent then the timing may have slipped a few teeth.  you need to ask some ?'s mate.

when it went into this garage at 1st they blamed the LPG i had fitted, when they took the engine apart they said there was debris in the chamber which they said came from the LPG installation (surprise surprise)
They did that and i had a tech 2 test done and it said that cylinder 6 was not getting any fuel, so they say they have rectified that and this was after they had changed the dis pack and the plugs and HT leads.
When i went to the garage to collect it when they said it was ready, it was still misfiring, they had managed to get the accellerator pedal loose, and they have damaged my bumper.

They have also ripped out my LPG installation.
After much shouting at the area manager, they have promised to get the LPG re-installed from a 3rd party and to fix the damaged pedal and the bumper.
Now they say i need a recon engine, which to be honest i agree with your posts and it seems very drastic seeing as they have pulled the engine apart several times.
Does anyone have any advice on what i can do legally? or can someone reccomend a garage in the london area where i can take my car?

it was running fine in both lpg and petrol, but then one day it just started running very lumpy on idle.
Then once i took it to this garage all these problems started.
They said they replaced the cambelt as well
its done 67000 miles and its had the cambelt replaced before i got it

i am not sure if they have checked the brethers or the icv

First get the car out of there and dont pay for any thing that you did not agree to. then go to trading stds and make a complaint as to there working practices, then complain to their head office. If they have fitted parts and have not cured the problen then i dont see that you are entittled to pay for them. As for debre in the cylinder then have they told you what it was, ie metal, if so it would have scored the bores and you will be down on compresion on those cylinders
