Engine looses Power, very strange problem! MV6
« on: 16 November 2007, 12:35:50 »

Hey,
My omega started acting up about 2 months ago, when I would put my foot down, the engine would slow me down, and bring the car to a stop, loosing all power. After this had happened, the engine would start, but then would die (so I thought a possible immobiliser fault) I would get the check engine light when this happened only sometimes. If I then waited about half an hour, the car would be fine again, provided I didn't push it very hard.

I left the car for a week or so and it seemed fine again for about a month, but then the problem came back. Then, after getting it back home, it has had no problem again.

I've got it plugged in, and it's saying there is a problem with the air mass meter, but understand this may not be the problem, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Crank Sensor? Fault doesn't always show up on ECU. Don't suspect immobiliser.

Sounds like a loose connector.....do check the maf connector and also check for loose inlet pipes..

Do you have the exact code.

Hi there,

I can only think of two possibilities - one the fuel pump maybe failing or the cat on the exhaust is blocked and not allowing gases to flow properly - if the engine fails when accelerated or put under load it sounds like fuel starvation.....

Just my two penneth....

Have chacked fuel pump, it is working fine.

Also, found some wires dangling around that were coming out of the Air mass meter and have cable tied them to the inlet so they can't move.

Check them for damage.....it sounds like an intermittent problem to me which is classic broken wire type symptoms....

Do a paperclip test as well, see what the ECU is thinking is wrong

check the connections  around the inlet, just unplug, make sure they're clear then plug them back in.

the exact some thing happened to mine with the 1 of the previous owners, this cured the problem and it didn't happen again.
