Immobilizer on a facelift

I  got a non starter
key opens door and disarms alarm
ignition works and dash lights up as it should, but the ECU light is flashing constantly and evenly.
I presume its the immobilizer(<- is that spelled correctly?)
what I need is the location of the unit and can it be bypassed or removed.

sorry if its a repeat thread but can only find info concerning older models  :-/

post a link to another thread if this is easier  

any help appreciated. :)

The immobiliser ECU is inside the steering wheel cowl and around the ignition switch....it cant be bypassed or removed without TechII and the car security pass.

It can be a b*****ard. My car stopped, flashing imobiliser light, would turn over but not fire. Had to get it Relayed home by the AA. The local agents decided it was the ECU that was duff, which would have meant £650. I got a set from a scrappy for £45, which they fitted and programmed the key to for £200. Trouble is you are stuffed with modern cars. If the electronics go bad on a Vaux, you need someone who has a genuine Tech 2 (forget the ebay crap, it doesn't work) to fix it. I suspect it was only the imobiliser key reader that costs £65, but without access to a Tech 2, I can't check.

Try your spare key, in case the transponder has fallen out or has failed and see what happens.

Try your spare key, in case the transponder has fallen out or has failed and see what happens.

I would do only, I only got the one key as another would double the value of the car.lol

I read in another forum that the rolling code sequence is lost if the battery in the key is removed or car battery is removed for a long period , this might be a stupid question but as my battery in the car was totally dead if i remove the key battery what are the chances of it resetting the sequence to the start. ::)

For those that dont know.
the box that is hidden behind the cowling is actually an antenna.
this powers up the small chip located in the key.
transmitter - responder.
made from  these two words  = transponder

the antenna powers up the chip in the key and the chip sends
its code back to the antenna.
this sends the code to the immobiliser or ecu
and if its genuine allows the car to start.

you can actually get around this by......... the ..........

you cant do this on several high end vehicles.
they have a system that prevents this.
 thats called
a software lock in the trade.
the listing of cars that can be bypassed is available free on the web.

one of my hobbies is a locksmith
and most locks can be opened in seconds with a blank key
so this immobiliser bypass is  hardly a big problem compared to lock security .

Rolling code is for the remote, not transponder...

IR type easily bypassed, later type from mid 95 on, much, much more difficult...

Its a close description of how it works....but a few errors.

The loop section of the immobiliser ECU is indeed an antenna, on the side of this is a small rectangular box which holds the immobiliser ECU.

The ECU section holds the information related to the stored transponder chips in the keys, if a transponder is detected that is one of the stored values then a further un-related code is sent to the engine ECU.

The engin ecu checks this code and if it corresponds with the one programmed into it, the ignition and injectors are allowed to operate.

Things to be aware of are......the transponder operation and code transmission to the ECU is quite slow and hence sometimes the engine will start and then die with the ECU light flashing....
