Hiya folks, recently my meega overheated and lost all its water through a small crack in the head, so i had a new head gasket and had the head repaired (They said it could be done). However now after having it back it just aint running its sweet old self, on tick over the car rocks side to side and the engine has hiccups, vibration can be felt through the car and it sounds more like a diesel.

To make matters worse the Engine management light has now come on.

I have had it plugged in to a tech but it wont register as connected.

Just out of curiosity whilst the engine was running i tried disconnecting the cam sensor & the crank sensor one after each other just to see if it made any difference to the running, and nope it didn't.

Do you recon the ECU is shot through the overheating? If so how much are they? ( I am sitting down )

Very unlikelythat the ECU is 'shot' as a) it would not run at all and b) the ECU sits away from the engine so unlikely that is has overheated.

Difficult to know where to start without the fault codes but I would look at it like this:

THe car was running ok before the head problem and you paid the garage to fix that so by rights it should run smoothly.  

It is possible for something else to fail BUT is is more likely that human error has crept in on the re-build, hence the rough running.  

Difficult to know where to start here but I'd get the EMS light codes read if at all possible first

I dont like the sound of repairing a cracked head......I have no rpoblem with welding heads but, cracked heads tend to be un-weldable.

I assume the timing is all correct etc?

A compression test would be worth doing.

You can read the fault codes using a paper clip....

I also assume everything has been re-connected correctly.

The timing is fine now, i had to have it redone after they rebuilt it, it was out slightly on the exhaust side.

Compression test: sounds like a good idea.

Fualt codes: Have tried the paper clip test, nothing happened, have been told since that you cant do it on the 2001 model.

Reconnected Properly: will take it somewhere else and have it checked over properly.

Agreed with Mr DTM, compression test it - and make sure HT leads in correct order!

Yes you can paperclip all 2.0/2.5/3.0 Omegas

Hi Mark, cheers my mistake, was looking at the display and not the EML for codes    It has come back 10/1/3/10 which i presume means 0130
 Is this the Oxygen sensor?
