Imobiliser Problem ??? 2000 2.5V6 Elite
« on: 06 December 2007, 02:43:17 »

Hi all !

Been spying here for a while before buying my 2000 2.5V6 Elite Great forum BTW !

My car has now a strange fault the key fob unlocks the door, disarms alarm no problems but nolonger starts the car. Turns over but no hint of firing ? the dash lights as usual
Starts first time brilliantly till this morning. Tried again after work just the same.
I read a similar problem a while back (but cant find it ???) maybe imobiliser ? how do I know if its engaged or not ? Maybe coil pack ? any clues hints etc

I was hoping that you guys could help me on my way to a fast track fix

Cheers

Two things to do:

1) Observe the ECU light....does it go out and is it flashing?

2) Try the spare key

3) Read the fault codes (I suspect a code 19)

As M_DTM says above, if EML is flashing, then the immobiser cannot communicate with transponder in key.

If EML not flashing, do a paperclip test.  If you get a code 19 back, that will be a knackered crank sensor causing your problem.  It does sound like this.

Ok when turningover engine the following lamps are light

Oil warning (def plenty oil no running problem at all before parking up)
battery warning (fully charged turns over with no problems)
eongine shaped yellow exhaust warning

all normal I think but dosent actually fire ???

Excuse my ignorance but which is the ecu light if its the car shape with the spanner over the top then that never lights ?

Can somebody direct me to the post that shows me how to acess the fault codes please ?

Cheers for the help so far

Where is the crank case sensor as I could make out the loaction of the photo in the maintainence guide ? easy to fit (dont have to drain the oil)  ? expensive ?

...........and Ive just found the maintance guides section so no need for the link to the paperclip test ....off to do that now..............

Why is it you cant find paperclips when you need one !  >:(

Still all sorted now codes were .........73.....31.........(31 its a V6 not started soi ignore that) but ..........73 ???

and guess what just thought Id try it again and it started  :y first time after this so wtf is going on ?

anybody had this before ? sounds like this is going to be a right PIA ...................Help !  :-[

LATER ON _

so 73 is low voltage air flow sensor found that here http://www.topbuzz.co.uk/info/fault_codes/fault_codes.htm#bosch

so where is that physically ? is it really that thats stopping me start the car ? red herring ? and why is it working now ? How long will it work ? Can you really answer the last two questions ? LOL

i had a similar fault on mine not so long ago, i tried all kinds to get it running but nothing seemed to work, turned out my nieghbour had a mate in the AA who came and fixed it in about 2 mins! it was the chip in my key that was faulty and after removing it and putting it in my spare key it was problem solved thank god!  :y

The chip doesn't have to be faulty .. it might just have moved in the key .... I had a similar problem that was solved with a spot of superglue ... the chip was loose and whilst the keys were in my pocket it would seem the chip sometimes moved, such that the transponder in the lock did not "sense" it was present so refused to start.

Entwood, Nij, the immobiliser is fine, the ECU light would be flashing if in invalid immobiliser signal had been received.

As a quick test.....unplug the MAF and try starting the car.
