Water leak in near side rear foot well
« on: 09 December 2007, 11:42:16 »

I have a serious leak in the rear foot well, near side. it only happens when it rains and the car doesn't have to be moving. I think it may be entering throught the air duct at the bottom of the wind screen and passing through the ducting coming out under the passenger seat.
Does anybody have any knowledge on how I can put this right?
Thank you
David

I had a similar problem & it turned out to be blocked drains from the sun-roof, but it might also be coming from the pollen filter area as a result of blocked drainage

No sunroof, but thanks for the pollen filter tip. As a complete novice, is the filter easy to locate and clear out ?

Thank you. Your information and help is first class. That was exactly the problem. Just one more question, the drainage grommet under the pollen filter doesn't seem to have a star shaped hole similar to the photograph of the off side grommet, and the only way I could drain the rain water was to push the side of the grommet away from the hole in the body work. As a temporary measure this works, should there be a similar star shape hole or should I puncture it with a long screwdriver for a more permanent solution?

All sorted. Having re-read your tips, everything is now working as it should.
Many thanks

Great news that you've fixed the infamous scuttle drain problem. Now just wait a few weeks for the smell of wet dog to leave the car.  ;D

Your carpets and sound deadening material underneath them will be sodden, in the front as well as the rear.
I had this problem on my estate and it was worse in the front footwell and some had flowed through to the rear.
I lifted the carpets to dry and removed the material underneath out of the car to dry, it did  stink after about a week.
I carefully cut it out, paying particular attention to not damaging any wires as I went.
