I've had omega for over a year with no probs, until now. For the last couple of weeks one of the warning signs has been appearing on dash.   According to owners handbook it means there is electrical fault with engine and to see a vauxhall dealer if it persists. Its not coming on all the time, just occasionally, so I was hoping someone may have some ideas on where to look for fault.

Hi Mick, and welcome to the forum.

That is your EML light. Fill in your profile with your car details and someone
will be able to tell you how to check for the fault codes that it's warning you
about.

Click on the 'Profile' button near the top of this screen and follow the menu
you are presented with. You may be able to 'Paperclip' your car yourself.
Depends on model and year. This will give you your fault codes.
Do not take it to a dealer unless you have a big fat wallet.

The answer to first post is its a 2.0 auto on x plate.  the light has just started coming on now and then.  If it comes on when i'm parked up it will go off for a few minutes if i raise the revs to over 1200

Action a Paperclip test iaw the above link.
You should have a Simtec ECU which will give you 4 digit codes.
Do the test with ignition on but engine NOT running.

You may find it useful to have someone with you in the car. They
can write down the codes as you watch the flashes and shout them
out, so keeping your eyes on the flashing light and not missing a flash.

10 flashes = the number 0 (zero)

Post up your results plus any other info you might regard as relevant.

To answer the driver from Birmingham, I'm not far away in Staffs
To answer the second advice I dont think I can run the test because i changed standard radio so I haven't got trip computer etc

You can run the test. The light that you count the flashes on, is the same
light that you noticed, and checked what it was for in your handbook.

I think I've misunderstood you, and the test you mentioned, because I've just followed the links that you left.  i'll try that in the daytime and get back to you asap.

No probs, Mick. Just post your codes up when you're ready, or ask for
clarification on any aspects of the test you are unsure of.
The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.  

Loads of folk on here who are clued up and will answer your post.

If I don't have time to run tests tomorrow is it still ok to use car, as long as they only light up occasionally.  And the big question is ...are they usually a sign of major faults

You should be fine to use the car as the light isn't on permanently.

You won't know how major or minor the job is until you read your
codes.

No point in just guessing. Wouldn't mean anything, and a guess would
be as much use as a chocolate fire guard.
