If you have a laptop then you can buy the connector and software off ebay, not to sure how good they are best bet is to ask THE BOY or MARK DTM as they both have one. I dare say they will be on here later ..... :y

I looked on e-bay & there are 2 types. One with 15 pin D type Serial port plug the other with USB connector
Both are quoted as OK for 1997 cars onwards - does this mean that I cannot use either on my late (Oct) 1996 TD?
I have 2 laptops one with Serial port as well as USB

The real Tech2 is several £1000s new, and around £1500 second hand. To get the most from it, you require a subscription to TIS 2000.

The cheapo Tech2 (the £30 type from Ebay) is a different kettle of fish altogether. Do not get the 2 confused ;)

Hi,

As said earlier, don't get a USB one.

The com port ones do work and will read engine, geabox and body fault codes and reset them.

However, they need a decent laptop and they need a built in com port as converters don't seem to work either. This means that if you have a new style laptop with loads of power but no com port or an old laptop with a com port but not enough power, you'll need to ask santa for a laptop to go with it.

I asked this forum some time ago what laptops worked and the consensus was anything over 1ghz should do. I bought a Dell C640 for under £100 off ebay which has a Pentium 4 1.8ghz chip. The cable works well with this.

Only other thing to say is some of the codes are in hungarian due to the software but you should still be able to get the gist.

Hope this helps.

Depends on how much you you want to spend ?
OpelScanner at £300.00 ish it works and you get updates.
Comes with USB connector

Still not as good as the real VX Tech 2.
But better than the £30.00 Ebay versions.
