Power steering switching off....and on....then off
« on: 15 December 2007, 16:15:35 »

I have a problem with the power steering on mine. I can guarantee that when I want to park, it will have switched itself off, and a bit later, when I have got used to having to heave it round roundabouts etc, it will switch back on (which can be 'Very' interesting if I'm not ready for it!, as I end up with the nose pointing toward the roundabout with the tail coming sideways.....).

Any ideas? (I have tried the obvious, pulley belt tension and fluid levels).

Thanks

I think the Elite steering can be adjusted with a TechII, you really need to have the codes read.

I did paperclip it, and the only code was 38 for the O2 sensor.

Don't think you can read the power steering module with the paper clip test, needs to be TechII'd.

You cant read the power steering codes with a paper clip.

Check the fuse is ok.....I ahve seen some go intermittent.

Is the speedo etc all working ok?

If the fuse has blown with the power steering on a pre-facelift (not sure if the same on facelift model I have now) then the cigarette lighter socket will be faulty too. They run on the same circuit.
I had a dodgy cigarette lighter that occasionally blew the fuse. This would also take out the power steering.
