Here is a quote from the man that can :y

Quote
Just to clarify, all full Facelift and all minifacelift (ie, solid head restraints, audio steering wheel controls, clear headlights) 4 speed autos can have the autobox firmware updated.

If you are still not sure if your PREFACELIFT is a minifacelift or not, check the last LETTER of your VIN. If its a W, X, or Y, it is updatable.  If its R, S, T, or V, it is NOT updatable.

It makes the changes smoother and the box locks up in top gear more readily. It is a more comfortable drive, but doesn't do much for the fuel consumption. Unfortunately, I don't have any data pre upgrade, but I would say that comsumption seems to be slightly higher since I had the upgrade done, especially when towing.

Don't know about MPG, but even the wife commented that the car drives much smoother after I had the upgrade done. In fact, it was so bad beforehand that I actually took the car to Vx complaining about clucky and rough gear changes, they said they 'checked the fluid level' and 'found nothing wrong with the transmission Sir'.  On the plus side, they didn't charge me extra for it.... I strongly recommend you get it done.

I was thinking about having it done but now I'm wondering if its already been upgraded. Having had the dis pack and leads replaced the gearchange has gone back to being smooth as silk, amazing the effect a dodgy dis pack has on everything.

I had mine upgraded this week by Mark the Genius and I can confirm that it does make a considerable difference to the gear changes. I didn't think it was bad before, but it is so much better now.

There are only 2 'magic machines' here, One in Brackley, the other Nottingham.

If thats too far, you either have to go to a meet where one of the above is attending, or fork out dealer prices, in which case ring ALL your local dealers, as when I did, had over £50 price variations!
