cambelt replacement????
« on: 27 December 2007, 22:14:21 »

Right may be you guys can help? Have worked at a Vx stealers for years but funny anough only ever done cambelts on 2.5 and 3.0 which we all know have the 40k/4year interval. I have bought myself a 2.6 MV6 MY01 with 42k on the clock and when i looked on vauxhall T.I.S system it told me the interval on the 2.6 is 80k or 8years this i found hard to believe so i looked  in the service book this said the same i then looked on autodata 2007 that said 40k or 4years for 2.6 i then phoned another dealer and they said 40k or 4years so which is it??? ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

AFAIK the original interval was 80K on all Omegas .. this was changed about 4 years ago I think to 4 years/40K due to the number of failures. It is NOT the belt that fails .. but the tensioner .. however when that lets go the whole thing gets out-of-synch and mostly will require a minimum of a head rebuild and possibly a complete engine... eitherway .. darned expensive !!

4 years / 40K  ... definately  :)

Got the full locking kit and cambelt kit in the boot thats not a worry and i know the problem was with the tensioner/idlers on the older lumps but why haven`t vauxhall corrected there information as all the software versions are the latest available it even said 8years 80k on menu pricing for *uck sake.it mentions the earlier cars being 40k or 4yrs though???
Now it looks like i`ll be doing the belt tommorow then instead of going down the pub boo hoo.. :'( :'( :-[ :( >:(

It is 40k/4yr on all Omega Cambelts.  Vx docs all over the place on it.

Vx found that they were having too many warranty failures on 80k cambelts so lowered to 40k.  Then to please fleet market, knocked back up to 80k (along with the engine damaging 20k service inteval), thinking the extra dosh gained by not pissing off the fleet managers would cover the extra warranty claims.

So, like the 20k oil change, ignore any reference to 80k cambelt changes.

Even Gm give 2.2 hours which is generous and includes fetching the car into the workshop.
