helllllllllllllllllp!!!
« on: 05 January 2008, 21:23:32 »

hello all! im going to try my best to explain this fault with my bloody omega! when i fire her up and drive i have no probs, its just the usual rocket! but after a mile or so when she starts to warm up she looses power splutters and the autobox dont know where it is unless i hammer my foot down! i thought it was a dirty air filter so i took it out just to check but shes the same! ive been loosing water from the header tank recently with no visible leaks and the oil filer cap is full of mayo! (short journeys most of the time but its pretty bad) any ideas please???

cheers

If your oil filer cap is full of Mayo then you might have a head gasket or two gone  :(

Several possibilities ... you say losing coolant but no sign of loss .. have you checked thoroughly the back face of the engine ?? This is where the Heater Bypass Valve lives .. a known failure point .. which can leak all over the DIS pack which them corrodes and breaks down under load. From your description of just getting warm..  it would also be about this time that the HBV operates and may well be leaking water onto the DIS which could also cause HT problems.

The mayo could be lots of short journeys where the oil never gets hot , or could be an oil cooler failure but as you only do short journeys its probably not.

i lose about 4 inches of water every week or two! the engine light works fine when i turn on the ignition! i drive ten miles to work on a morning and i get a little mayo but the last two weeks ive hardly used it so its quite bad! the longer i drive at the moment the worse it gets! if i drive cold to the shop and back its fine!

Fuel filter, or blocked exhaust.

Worth checking for plug wells for oil....

Sounds to me buddy like a fuel problem, ie when on choke it's fine, but when warm & off choke it buggers about but is ok if you cane it.
Just an thought & an avenue

That will cause a misfire.

Though if it hasn't been serviced it a long time, servicing would be a bloody good place to start!
