2.5 and 2.6 V6 engines. Main changes?

Hi,

I'm looking at a couple of semi skimmed V6's with a view to buying.  The early facelift cars (99-01) seem to have a 2.5 engine and the later ones have a 2.6.

I'm sorry if this newbie question has been asked before, but what were the main changes made?  I assume the 2.6 is a development of the 2.5?  Are there any performance/economy adavntages with the newer engine and is it worth seeking out a 2.6 over a 2.5 or is it 6 to one half dozen the other?

not much performance/economy wise between them.

2.6 is newer dbw unit, with coil per plug, no egr or sia, so arguably easier to work on.

Each has its pros and cons - I would say these even each other out.

2.6 has the "drive by wire" engine, which means the throttle is electronic controlled rather than the traditional cable.

The spark plug is linked to a coil back in the V, rather than the DIS pack mounted on the outside of the engine the 2.5.

Performace is about the same, maybe a fraction better with 2.6.

2.6 its easier to install cruise, just new store and tech2 enable.

2.6 bay is a lot neater lots of bits removed, i think??? no EGR?

Depends on your definition of easier - not everyone has a tech2 800yrds up the road ;)

2.5 (and 3.0) cruise really easy, bolt the bits in and it works :y

Mmm.  Must look those acronyms up.  If it helps, I plan to install LPG in the car.  Also, it would be great if I could get some opinions on this Mig which has just come up for sale near me.  I hope this hyperlink works:

low miles (if genuine - omegas wear well, so easy to clock), but pricey for CD

DBW - Drive by wire, no throttle cable
CPP - Coil per plug (ie, each plug has its own coil, no HT leads)
SAI - Secondary air injection (emissions thing)
EGR - Exhaust Gas Recirc (emissions, not needed on 2.6 due to lower compression ratio)

Would £2500 be more like it?  I could get a Mig in the mainland but I have to budget £250 - £300 to bring it back to N. Ireland plus I'd be buying blind.  The choice here is rubbish.  A good manual V6 mig with less than 100k miles is like hens teeth over here!

2.5k is overpriced this side of the water in mainland market, but in your market it maybe better.

Yes, for my sins!  I must've been a bad boy in a previous life!  Only kidding, it's not all bad.  There's some very nice scenic and twisty B roads near me that you boys would love!

In addition, the 2.6/3.2 have inidividual coil packs, so no HT leads.

I'd say the 2.6/3.2 are much easier to work on due to having far less bits to worry about when working in the engine bay. But power-wise they are very similar in real life in spite of slightly higer BHP and torque figures claimed for the 2.6/3.2.

One more thing to note is that the 2.6/3.2 have lower compression ratios (10.0:1 instead of 10.8:1 on the older engines), so I am not sure what will happen if you try to fit a 2.6 head on a 2.5 engine...

That looks pricey for a CD. I recently bought a facelift 2000 70k Elite 3.0 and had to pay WAY more than I thought I should have as I urgently needed the car and wasnt bargaining from a position of strength. Cost me £3800 from a dealer (luckily with a warranty as I had £1000 of things went wrong in the first 2 months!). For me personally anything without the essentials would significantly reduce the price, by that I mean Leather, cruise, auto box
