Hi Richard,

As per my email reply last night, whilst I'm happy to help, I'm not sure I can find time for a couple of weeks  :'(

why don't you give it a go yourself? it really isn't that hard if you've got a bit of mechanical experience, just a bit time consuming.

i did mine last week and it took me about 10 hours over 2 days with cleaning the breathers aswell and i've never worked on a v6 before.

print the guides off from the maintenance section, they're really straight forward and helpfull :y

how bad are they leaking?

Thanks Tab, in years gone by I have wrestled with engines until submission, now I change oil & filter and other basic maintance jobs, today I would much sooner pay a fair price and see someone with experience do a good job. Also I can't do without the car being on the road, as we cover over 20k a year around the UK.

that's without supplying any parts or cleaning the breathers :o

my car is in the garage to have the cam covers changed as we speak.
they're charging me £35 per hour (3 to 4 hours labour).
the cost of the cam covers is around £70 each from L.M.F Vauxhall and are genuine parts.

Why change the actual covers ?? They are plastic and only distort is overtightened ... cam gaskets are what need replacing.. !!

must be a common myth about warping cam covers, the garage i had that qoute from said they'd only do the job if i bought new covers aswell as the gasket set::)

The garage is probably covering its @rse by fitting new covers and gaskets there's less chance of it leaking again, as long as they clean the breathers too...

However, in the real world, cleaning breathers and changing gaskets should do it nicely

Started at 12:45 today and changed both cam Covers for new items from Vauxhall and finished at 16:30. That was with 2 of us doing it it wouldn't be so bad if the right bank (as you look at the engine) wasn't coved in half the wiring harness.
I changed just the seals in November and they leaked again within 3 Weeks (yes I had done all the breathers too)
So I've changed both of the cam cover for new ones with seals straight from Vauxhall Selly Oak Birmingham for £62.10 + VAT Each
Fingers crossed we'll see how it goes.
I'd say 3 to 4 hours labours is about right as my mate is a Mechanic and i'm an Engineer and thats how long it took us.

Cam cover gaskets should take a garage just over two hours which should include extensive breather cleaning.

When I said it we started at 12:45 and finshed at 16:30 we did but that did include a trip to Mcdonalds and a few tea breaks. But thats probably what a mechanic in a garage wuld probably do anyway :o  ;D
