Hi Guys,
I have had a recent EML code flash up 0130 Oxygen sensor.
Took it out to see if giving it a clean would help, it was completely clogged up with a black sooty deposit.
Cleaned it off with Carb Cleaner to see if that would cure it.
Refitted and no difference whatsoever.
I think its past its sell by date and need a new one.

However before i shell out £100ish just for it to happen again would any of the following cause the sooty deposits or if not what would be the most likely culprit?

1. Timing out of sync on the exhaust side.
2. Leaking exhaust.

Carb cleaner may not have been the right agent for the job. Lambda sensors are easily contaminated. Failing that it could just have been beyond cleaning.

Give it a motorway run and see if it wakes up. Failing that it probably needs replacing. There are plenty of online suppliers who will probably give you a better price than that.

An exhaust leak upstream of the sensor could cause the problem (exhaust manifold gasket, etc).

i get most of my oxygen sensors from http://www.cats-direct-shop.co.uk/ £20 ish had no probs with them

the last few time i have used ebay and got them from £10.50 with make an offer and work just as good and nice and easy to fit http://stores.ebay.co.uk/T-P-GROUP

i now use every time and saved £££
