Transmission Noise When Cold
« on: 03 January 2008, 21:58:11 »

Hi & I wish you all a very prosperous new year !!
I have a noise on my Omega and the colder the weather the worse the noise, its a "Rumble" or "Drome" which seams to be central of the car and comes in at about 30 mph when very cold and about 45 if the weather is warm. It also gets less noticable after a good long run.
could it be something to do with the prop shaft ? Its only done 78,569 miles.
Be glad of any help  ;)

could be the centre prop bearing, worth getting underneath and checking

Cheers

I've been using the handbrake and going to park after the engine is switched off since reading that post but no change. Does the doughnut harden with age and would it be worth finding a polyeurathane replacement (if available)?

Hi, Sorry its taken so long to thank you all, been ill with some bug.
Looks likely to be the rubber drive couplings then, it does make a lot of sense what you say about the coupling being under load and out of true, then becoming set in this form until it recovers with warmth and movement.
With the Omega's being such quiet and smooth cars any little fault is more noticable than most others !!
Perhaps Vauxhall technical/waranty might have a solution.
