Pretty sure before firing as well, leave it ten seconds or so. Have had the selector switch cleaned. Will go and check now.

OK, when ignition is on (car not started) CHECK appears after about 10 seconds. As soon as I press the break and lift the gearbox selector AUTOMATIC GEARBOX comes up. So does this mean it is electrical?

Certainly worth getting gearbox codes read to see what gearbox ecu thinks is wrong

i fitted mine in my driveway ,just me and my little trolley jack.i wouldnt reccomend it though as it fell off the jack and landed on my hand! (still got a bit of a scar 18 months later) but if you can get a mate(or wife!)to help you should think about having a go at it. it isnt technically difficult,just awkward and you would save a lot of money in labour costs

I had it scanned but it didn't seem to want to know. Bloke said it probably has something to do with the wiring loom so I'll get that checked out too.

What tool did they use - some generic tools can't read gearbox

I don't know, he said at first there were a coupe of errors then it stoppped responding, through with it all really now. Can't be arsed to spent anymore time or money on it to be honest. What would it be worth as scrap?
