I have just resealed the rocker cover gasket a week a go and it appears that it is already leaking. Now I know theres a possibility that I have not put the seal in correctly but it appears to be leaking from the same place as before right in the middle at the front of the engine.

Do you think there is a possibility that the cam cover itself maybe warped??

There is always a slight possibilty. Did you clean the head and the covers really well and change the rubber o-rings in the cam covers?
Did you use genuine gaskets?
You can check if they are warped with a steal 12" rule.

Yes I used genuine gaskets but to be honest no I did not change the o rings. Yes I cleaned the head and the covers really well ensuring they had a clean mating surface before refitting. May have to get another gasket then and remove the cover once again and see what I find. Have a 12" steel rule so will have it out ready.

gasket may be reusable if virtually new - if its still soft

Did you use black sealant either side of the front cam bearing caps and at the corners of the rear 'D's ?
If not then that is the likely cause of your leak.

I am assuming you followed the Maintenance Guide and used the Vx black sealant in the specified spots? And that you also thoroughly cleaned the breathers, including the Y-shaped tube at the back? And that the bolts were torqued to 8NM using a calibrated torque wrench?

No I didnt use any sealant as I wasnt issued any with the gasket. Yes the breathers were cleaned and yes torqued to the right setting.

Wonder why they didnt give me the sealant if it was required!!!!!!

Thats Vauxhall for you, you have to ASK for everthing that you want, because they seem to only be able to read numbers and push buttons. They know nothing about cars it would seem.

I will get onto them in the morning, I used to use them all the time at my last firm as we ran a few vauxhalls in the fleet so I will chew the parts managers ##### first thing tom.

They did not give you the sealant because you did not ask for it. They do not have the brain capacitiy for thinking that they should say you need the sealant as well. Get the right sealant, it is black not green as they will try to give you. Change the 16 o rings as well.

...and if they give you grief, quote TIS bulletin 4271 'Cylinder Head Covers, Removal and Install' and bulletin 4378 'Sealants, Lubricants, And Sealing Compounds - V6'.

Have rang vx today and the parts guy tried to tell me it was better to do it without the sealant. I told him it was highly recomended and he reluctantly gave me a price and said oh we sell tonnes of it.

Going to have a look this weekend and see what the original gaskets like and if so replace as he says they carry them in stock and I can get it up to 1pm on sat.
