Fumes inside car?
« on: 16 January 2008, 18:07:58 »

I've had my car about a month now but in the last few days I;ve started noticing the smele of fumes inside the car and it was particularly bad on my drive home from work this evening.

Deos anyone know what the likely cause of this might be and what I need to check out?

Cheers

Hi, An uneducated guess. Most likely is from engine bay via a leaking manifold gasket, fumes coming out from bonned & draen in through heater. Or, if you have an estate. It could be possiblt being drawn in through the tailgate if the seal is shot/split. The wind effects at spped do strange things.
But i would start in engiine bay personally.

Could be exhaust leak but also could be oil leaking from the cam covers and burning on the exhausts.

Very true kevin, I automatically assumed exhaust fumes but I did get whiff of burning oil in mine when cam covers went.
Thanks for alternative theory  :-[

My power steering pump is leaking slightly....maybe you have the same problem?

After a good blast there is a nasty smell of fumes in the cabin and a bit of smoke from under the bonnet

Its not life threatening.......but VERY annoying
