Traction control
« on: 16 January 2008, 22:35:23 »

ok, i have a traction control problem, i have 96 elite 3.0 auto, im sure when i read the owners manual it said when the traction control button is pressed, the light is displayed and traction control is on standby, when its active (i.e detecting wheel spin and lowering revs) it is flashing, or if there is a fault it is flashing. but after searching the forum to find out about my problem i came across this which says different: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1197835257/0
Is this traction control always on unless switched off on all models or did i just misread the manual?!

Anyway, my problem, i thought i would try out the traction control in the wet, turned it on, light came on and stayed on, gave it a swing round the corner, back end went everywhere but the light didnt flash and made no attempt to cut the engine revs?! any ideas or pointeers? thanks in advance!

TC is ON (working -light off) by default ... you switch it OFF (non-working - light on) when you select it and the light is on permanently .. it is a "fail-safe" system .. every time you swirtch the ignition off it reverts to "working" (light off).

If in the on (working - light off) state and it kicks in to control wheelspin the light flashes.

so -

no steady light .. TC Selected ON
steady light ...     TC selected OFF
flashing light ..     TC relieving wheel spin

The default is for it to be on. When it is ON the dashboard lamp is OFF.

If the Dashboard light is ON the traction is OFF!

you misread the manual.

pressing the button and having the light on tells you that the TC is off, as you have found out, when the switch is off an the light is off if you were to try the same thing it would spin a little, TC would cut in and the light would flash.

if you are going to try it make sure you are in an area that doesn't have others cars/people nearby  :y

Traction control is on as default, pressing the button switches it off. The light on is the warning that the traction control is off.

The light flashes when the the traction control is on and is it is activated by loss of traction.
