replacing my gearbox

hi all, hope someone can help me here...

I have a 2.5 GLS auto estate (98)

i discovered that the transmission has been running dry for some time (i havenet had the car long), just recently, after going up ateep hill the transmission warning light came on, and it has been very slow and sluggish pulling away.  

I immediately suspected low transmission fluid, and topped this up, but it has made no difference (fluid is leaking out all over my drive).

Since i dont know how long its been running dry or if the bands are scorched/stretched/ damaged, i have got hold of a second hand working gearbox which i am going to swap.

Can anyone advise of any seals/gaskets/sundries that should be changed at the same time, so that i can have them all bought in advance.

No seals or gaskets needed really.... maybe some exhaust manifold ones,  just to be safe, but they are generally not needed. Copper slip to put on the bolts for next time, 7 litres of Dextron III

Try and get access to a car lift, its MUCH easier with the car high up.

Hi,
Gaskets would probably be a good idea, only about a fiver each from VX, also the box drain plug has a soft washer on it which can warp, probably wouldnt hurt to replace this too.

Possibly worth putting fresh oil in new box, so gaskets for both sumps, and a filter...

also when refitting, fit the torque converter in the box.

Don't leave it bolted to the flex plate, when re-fitting it might not mate correctly and can cause issues.

Have the box with the bellhousing faceing upwards, and insert the torque converter. You should hear and feel a rumble as you rotate the torque converter, you know then its fitted right.

When fitting, the flexplate bolts pull the torque converter slightly forward....

Its probably best to join the autobahnstormers, theres a member on there that sells gaskets and the filter for £30 and you will get a trade card. :y
