Warning lights on
« on: 06 November 2007, 20:24:30 »

Help please - 1998 2.5V6 Elite Estate.  Whilst driving ABS & TC lights sometimes come on together and stay on for about 5 minutes, then go off together.  Car goes OK with no symptoms re ABS or TC.  All pads fairly new and brake fluid level ok.  Any ideas?

Does the speedo drop to zero at the same time ???  If it does ... ABS ECU is the culprit ... :(

Its tricky to change, and expensive from VX ... but I had mine checked and repaired by BBA Reman

01634 230 055 and it has since been no problem at all.

It does sound like ABS ECU  :'(

Remind me - is it mini facelift, I can't remember.  Mini facelifts and Facelifts are prone to this.

You've not seen this one - its a goldish estate on R plates (early 1998 - 80K miles)  Like my silver one - mini facelift (HIDs etc)
This only happens spasmodically - does NOT affect speedo or rev counter - these continue to work normally.
??????????

Does sound like it could be the ECU, but may be worth reading the codes in the vain hope that it may be an intermittent sensor etc...

Confirmed 2day when ABS & TC lights come on speedo stops working.  Speedo back ok after about 1 min & lights then go off.

Anyone got a cheap 2nd hand working ABS ECU??

Car is 1998 2.5 V6 auto Elite Estate.  Any Tech2 programming required if another ABS ECU fitted??

If you have the P/N for the ECU, you can try here:

Get it repaired at the place I gave above..... BBA Reman ...  doesn't need re-programmming like a second hand one will, and has a 2 year guarantee ..

I got excellent service  ... 5 day turn round £130 including VAT and courier delivery :)

Well eventually changed the ecu - just took off top hose and fumbled!  Started at 9am all done 12.30!  All lights out, speedo works etc.

Hope it stays that way - don't want to do that again!!!!!!!!

Thanx to Dave for supplying part.
