Ride Height - please measure to compare
« on: 22 September 2007, 18:16:48 »

I think my car is down at the back so I have measured the ride height.

From centre of wheel to top of arch the inside lip
Front average of 365mm
Rear average of 350mm

I would like to know what others have, including MV6 and also aftermarket springs (eg Brucie).

Need to know both to see how much mine is out and if I could get away with stiffer springs rather than OEM

My 1998 3.0 MV6 manual measures 368mm ave front and 333mm ave rear, wheel centre to arch lip.  The rears are direct Irmscher replacements and are supposed to be 30mm lowered from standard.

Dunno if that helps you Martin, but the car certainly handles better than it did.

Will go and check mine now, but does the LPG tank not make the rear sit a little lower than the norm?

Right

375 Rear, 370 Front

Remember the shock, as well as springs, decide the ride height.

So mine is quite down then, the front is not bad, but the rear is.

It is a bit bouncy, BTW the gas tank made little difference to height

But Brucies is 17mm lower, but that is MV6 so may be lower anyway.

Can anyone confirm ride height differences between MV6 and normal and what actually does it?

What I am planning is that if a lowered kit is no lower or barely any lower at the back I'll get and fit one along with assisted shocks.

Try measuring the ground clearance.

i.e. from the exhaust, the measurment is in the handbook. dont have an mv6
so cannot compare.

Martin, might be a daft question but.

I assume yours is on a flat surface with auto in neutral and hand brake off (chock the wheels)

In park and brakes on shallow slope (1:100 roughly), if anything it would be higher not lower, as back is at the bottom.

No worse than when on the flat.

Martin,

Mine is 1 2002 2.6, with only 19k on the clock, so it's pretty much ex-showroom as far as suspension wear is concerned.

I checked the heights (handbrake off in P:

Both front and rear nearsides are 380
Both front and rear offsides are 375

The road has a slight camber, so I would say (downward to offside), so I would be looking at around 377.5 all round as an average.

Hope that helps! :)

Sounds like my fronts are a bit tired and my rears are worn out
