ongoing lack of power/misfire
« on: 14 January 2008, 20:27:09 »

Hi chaps,

I managed to take out my spark plugs today, there was only one plug with a tiny trace of oil on it, nothing too heavy at all.  Placed a new set of plugs in, took it down the road and it was exactly the same, lack of power and a misfire at mid revs that cuts all power (like traction kicking in)  :(

Can anybody recomend a place that sells dis packs and leads other than vx (or is it main dealer only part) and is there anyway of testing a dis pack off the car?

Thanks once again

have you read the fault codes? check out how to paperclip your car.

it could be the crank sensor / cam sensor.

Does sound like DIS pack though.... you can test them (but i don't know how) someone who does will be along in a bit.

As for replacement ones.... I do know of one in a local scappy. Its a 1995 3.0 Elite with the DIS still on it.

What kind of prices have you been quoted so far?

Hi, my car has not shown its managment light through this problem so have not checked codes. I think I will go and do it now anyway because there is no harm in checking... It may shed some light on it... ;D

As for a second hand dis pack im not so sure (unless there stupid money!) as I think im correct in saying there are a pig to change so only fancy doing it once!  ;) but thanks for the offer

Thanks for your advice

<<<<<UPDATE>>>>>

I just carryed out the paperclip test even though the light wasnt on....

12     Normal start
19     RPM signal (crankshaft sensor)   Incorrect signal
16     Knock sensor 1                         No change in voltage

Is it possible that both sensors are playing, any ideas!  :'(

Code 19- you need to do the test on a V6 with engine running.
If code 19 is still present then you will need a new crank sensor definately.

Change the crank sensor without delay!

19 WILL let you down, so plan changing that one asap.

However, the knock sensor will make it run like a sack of sh.... above about 2k. not sure why it not bringing eml on though...

Super, thanks very much. I should put the local vx number as friends and family!  ;D

Will the codes need clearing or will the fitting of a new sensor clear it?

Thanks very much

You can have them cleared but they should auto clear after about 10-12 starts without fault. IIRC.

have to agree with others, get that crank sensor changed... and have it done by the weekend, if not sooner.

Report back once its changed, let us know if you still have the problems  :y

The knock sensor will likely be damaged wiring, rather than sensor, and hence can be repaired :y
