run the engine with the cap of the header tank and heater controls on high - gently "burping" the hoses...

Run the engine with the cap off the resovoir and keep burping the hoses top and bottom, when the airlock clears you will get a gurgle and the water level will drop.
Was the heater hot before you changed the waterpump??

Let the car cool, then turn the heater to hot, and start the car with the expansion tank cap off and let it tick over for a good while. this should get rid of the air in the system :y
