Leading on from my post in chit chat.......

Im now confused!  

Ok.......heres a summary....

It appears to me after about 10mins or more of being stationary (so somethings cooled down!) when i first pull away slowly i get a screeching noise coming from the front offside wheel (its a rubbing type screeching...ie as i speed up so does the screech) get above about 10mph and it stops and doesnt return again until ive been stationary for about 10mins or more again. I can ie stop at lights for a few mins, pull away and it doesnt make any noise.
It also stops making the noise if i apply the brakes.

Direction of which way the wheel is pointing seems to affect it as well.......ie seems to do it more if the wheels are straight ahead

I thought it was the brake pads.......but having changed them this morning......it was still doing it this afternoon.

Should point out its been doing this for about 2 weeks now.......but doesnt seem to be getting any worse.

Does this sound like the wheel bearing?  :-/

What confusing me.....why doesnt it do it all the time and why does putting the brakes on, shut it up?

Also hasnt make any affect to the steering......ie its not pulling to right.
I dont get any steering wobble at high speed braking to indicate warped disk. Could it still be the disk?  :-/

Any ideas? or i'll be taking it to the garage......

Sticking caliper piston causing pad drag?

I have a vague recollection of filing or grinding a chamfer on pads in a particular way. does that ring any bells?

Is there any play in the wheel bearing?

Does sound to me like the pad edges grating on a disk that's running very slightly out of true.

Might be worth popping the pads out again and filing a chamfer on the edges.

I filed the front and rear of my pads as Mark said that if you don't you can get some noise from them, think that is what you mean

This Is a Total Wild shot in the Dark TD but I remember you saying you have just fitted new mud flaps i am only saying this as i had a squeek after putting the right size tires on mine and they were fatter than what was on before and it caught on the mudflap took the mudflaps off squeek gone.

Ill be totally wrong here but i throught it may be a long shot of your squeek

As happened with me years ago on a TR6 - small stone caught between pads & disc

Brand new vx pads fitted this morning guys........they already have a champer on them

Dont think so.........did give the wheel a 9-3 and 12-6 wiggle while jacked up.........couldnt tell any movement...

The only solution I can think of is lift the car (low height)

then try to get the noise and check what it can be..

Yes i do have new mudflaps.........and i have bounced them off some country lanes.......that gives a kinda grate/grind noise.........not a squeal.......plus when legs up in air........ive checked fully left to right lock the wheels clear the mudflaps

If I remember rightly Dave mine also were VX ones came with a very small chamfered edge, but I did file some more off

Its fixed  

I took it to my local garage this morning.......and tbh, i wouldnt have found the prob.....and dont think they would have done it they didnt have it on ramps. (its one of those type of ramps that has 4 arms and lifts the car by the jacking points)

Wasnt wheel bearing.....they checked.....then they where on about sticking caliper......but while prodding around....they noticed the metal protection plate on the inner side of the caliper was so close to the disk it looked like it might be touching it........so they adjusted it (ie bent it out way   )

Since then no squealing  8-)
