chipping omega 2.5td
« on: 21 January 2008, 15:02:43 »

hi guys , ive trawled the net and not got an answer to this one yet!  why has the bmw 325 tds got substantionally more power than the omega with the same engine? i,m going to chip mine and wondered if fitting /chipping the bmw ecu would recover the missing ponies. any of u guys have chips for sale to suit this car, also the car needs a good wind to start if the tank is below 1/4 otherwise runs ok.any help gratefully recieved.

As others have said, Omegatoy is the man to speak to - he is away at the minute, but I am currently in the queue to get mine remapped.

Originally the Vx unit had to be detuned from BMW spec because it killed the pikey autoboxes Vx used. Fairly easy to regain an extra 30bhp.

Alot of diesel Megas suffer from a dead lift pump - new one about £110 from Vx - otherwise just stay above 20 litres of fuel.

Cheers Platty

Just be aware that the AR25 box may let go if you chip the car, you may end up having to fit an AR35 box which is designed to take the extra grunt.

I fitted omegatoys chip to my omega and gave it a very noticable increase in extra bhp and torque.

I hear he's moving house at the minute but drop him a PM, you won't be disapointed.

As stated, Omega detuned to stop the AR25 autobox being wrecked.

If yours is an auto, do not chip it without strengthening the gearbox (ie AR35).

Omegatoy is the man, but is moving house currently.

Naturally, my TD is chipped (and yes, it does have AR35 box)...

Did you wreck an AR25 before changing to the 35? Or did you know to change it before you got it chipped?

change the box before you chip it, it cant take the higher torque.

AR25 is a fine box, fitted to a lot of Mercs!

But as with anything built to a price, it was built only with stand 250Nm of torque

The engine is detuned to be right on the 250Nm that the box can take.  So it'll never last.
