bought oil and oil filter came home jacked the car up then tried to take the nut from the sump and it just keeps turning and wont come off, has this ever happened to anyone esle, and how do i get it off? could do with a oil change thanks 99 2.5v6

Never on a V6, prently of times on BMW tractors.  Sounds like stripped sump

He's in Northern Ireland.

Most garages have the ability to remove and retap the sump

cheers lads, so the oil change wasnt a simple job after all, just my luck... wonder is it a big job to fix?

It is. There's not enough sump to put another thread in any way. As has been said before the thread in the sump is an ally insert that's crimped into the steel pan. It's this that's spinning & causing the problem.
If you search hard enough you'll even come up with te part number.

does anyone know how big a job it would be to take the sump off to get the oil changed? its just i could really do with changing the oil, i do big miles in the week, would the sump seal again if i took it off?

You don't need to take the sump off to change the oil, you can get one of them manual pumps with long tube (I think Machine Mart do them) and pump out the old oil through the dipstick neck (OK, so you don't get out the sludge from the bottom of the sump, but it is better than driving on old oil...), though you will need to get the sump off at some point of time if you intend to fix the drain plug thread... at this point you might even find it easier to get a second-hand sump?

Please read this ! Happened to me two months ago, secondhand sump going spare from Issunaz, used two screwdriver blades and rotated sump plug out, changed sump, job done.
However on closer inspection it was the thread on the sump plug which was stripped not the sump, a new sump plug would have done the job.

cheers guys, took the sump of today wasnt that big of a job, couple of hours job done, will try takin the bung out the next time im changing the oil thanks again..
