Broken Down Again!!
« on: 27 January 2008, 20:40:21 »

Well Ive had one hell of a crap day. Firstly I think I got caught for speeding on the A1 this morning (was doing 75 going down a really steep hill when I saw him sat at the side of the road with his hair dryer out!!)

Then on the way back from Harrogate the car started acting funny. Firstly on starting the car it fired first time but then suddenly started missfiring and lots of condensation coming from the exhaust. Stopped car, checked the leads and opened water tank (smell of exhaust fumes in tank). Waited for traffic to clear and set off again, drove fine once over 30mph & excelerating but when I allowed revs to drop it was if it was missfiring and lots of condensation. Decided to risk the drive home and made it to within 1/2 mile of my junction when the temp gauge went straight to redline and light came on. Pulled off on works sliproad and stopped, steam was billowing from under bonnet. Opened bonnet to find water squirting from right hand top side of radiator and evaporating on engine. Just been recovered and now  home.

Have checked the oil, but no water in there. Too hot to remove resevoir cap but looks empty.

Do you think that the headgasket may have gone or do you think it may be leads/plugs playing up and trapped air in system????

Help please Im going insane  :o :o :o :o

Well I thought it could be, but no water in oil or oil in water and it runs fine at higher revs.

I would have thought that it would not run at all if it was the head gasket??? or am I mistaken??

It could of blown across water way/piston bores which just compresses the water system and blows water out wherever and no oil in water

Well I though I would replace the hose and plug in radiator and change coil pack/plugs and see what happens then. Also going to look for water leak behind the engine.

If that fails, think Im going to look for another engine from a donor as head been done less than 12 months ago and been nothing but a pain since!!

I thought oil in water was a V6 oil cooler problem, and you haven't got an oil cooler

Sounds like a bit of a b*stard to me.  Reminds me of the time when I was away in the New Forest and my crank sensor decided to pack up so I had to be recovered all the way home!  Don't you just hate it when the car breaks down, but I can't bear to part with the Omega.

As an aside I generally have quite a lot of condensation coming out of the exhaust.  I mostly notice it when I'm stationary and I can see it drifting up past the rear windscreen.  Is this anything to be worried about?

Nothing to worry about, its a big, double piped exhaust system that takes a long time to get hot.

Cheers.  Never really bothered me, but upon seeing this topic just thought I'd ask.
