Is it the DIS pack???
« on: 31 January 2008, 16:20:17 »

Driving around today the MV6 suddenly started running lumpy and sounded like is was mis-firing as i was pulling away and at low revs

Assuming it was the oil in the plug wells on the drivers bank i gave them a clean out and put 3 new plugs in.

Still runs pretty much the same, also makes no difference if i take one of the plug leads off!!

Is it the dis pack??

I know for a fact the HBV has been peeing water out and i'm guessing this has gone on the dis pack and its knackerd.

Still starts on the button.

HELP!!!!

BTW is there any difference between a 2.5 and 3ltr dis pack?

If there was oil in the plug wells, you may well have fried the HT leads, do they look cooked?

How would i tell??

They are black and clean, just look like plug leads to me  :)

No visable sign of cracking of the rubber at all

Check for water/oil in the plugs.

See above, oil cleaned out of plug wells and new plugs put in  :)

I had exactly the same problem last week. Turned out that the heavy rain we had the night before had filled up the scuttle (which was blocked up) with water and run over into the nearside cam cover between the cams and filled the plug wells with water. I dried them out and it totally cured the problem .I obviously cleared out the scuttle at the same time.

Markie had this problem when he bought my old Omega. The HBV went shortly before Markie bought it from me and apparently it had leaked over the DIS pack. He replaced the DIS pack but still had the misfire. Turned out to be the plug leads!!

*Further update*

All 6 plug wells are clear, and i have even cleaned the end of the plug leads with a Q tip!!

But now its chucking out some sort of white smoke, and there is some watery oily black residue coming out the exhaust, i am assuming this is the oil that dropped in the cylinders when i removed the plugs as i couldnt get it all out before i removed the plugs.

Theres nothing funny in the expansion tank or the dip stick/ filler cap.

Am i right in the assumption its just excess being chucked out??

if its 2.5 or 3.0

its possible to have DIS fault..

First check the connections..Also theres a socket behind the engine for injectors and this can be oxidised so check this also..

I think im correct in saying its possible to run the wire to close to the exhaust down pipe, this would cause the sensor to fail.
