LPG conversion
« on: 06 February 2008, 16:29:17 »

Hi,
Ive been looking through the message board and have noticed that a lot of the members Omegas are LPG conversion, If anyone can supply info on cost to convert, the improvement in running cost and if there is any difference in performance it would be much appreciated.
I am up in the Highlands of Scotland and LPG conversion companys are few and far between.
Cheers  :)

i did a DIY job, for the parts it cost me £700 and it then took me about a week to do (on and off)

Benefits are of course cheaper fuel, but also running LPG i have found the oil to be cleaner at oil change time

Performance does suffer slightly, at the most i would have said 10%, and on a car like the Omega that doesn't seem to have any noticiable difference

Yes the tank does take up space in the boot, but then it is more than large enough for my requirements

I get about 20-25mpg from LPG and about 25-27 on petrol, but at half the price of petrol (nearly) i am happy to suffer that loss

I change the oil in mine every 3k miles, purely because of the mileage i do and that fact that i believ it helps to keep the engine in top condition, plugs need to be changed at 10k everything else has the same service schedule.
LPG does rely on a good electrical system, if there is an issue LPG will find it.

On a day to day point of view the only thing i see is benefit, i save money and to drive i feel no difference.

If you have confidence in delaing with mechanical issues then fitting an LPG kit would be fairly straightforward, the only thing i would suggest is checking out where your nearest LPG station is
