Hi, I have a Trafficmaster Oracle switch on my dash and was wondering if anyone could tell me where the control unit would most likely be located. I need to find it and get the serial number from it to subscribe to the system. I have only had my Omega since December and i am planning to swap my exsisting Sony CDX GT111 cd radio for a CDR2005 headunit next week all being well. As i will be removing the exsisting double din adapter with the Sony unit i thought this may be the best time and way to find it and get the serial number. Thanx.

I just bought my car this week and it has the same thing fitted. I accidentally pressed the button twice in quick succession and this ladies voice eminated from the dashboard and asked me to give her a call sometime quoting serial number xxxxxxx.

I know it might be a really obvious one, but have you tried this?

Ah.. a newbie and new owner like me. I have tried pressing the switch but as i have a Sony unit which is not connected to the steering wheel controls, i assumed that when whoever fitted the Sony unit dissconected them as well as the Trafficmaster. Mmmm a female voice from the dash you say.... must get subscribed ha ha. thanx.

I have read a thread somewhere that indicated that the control unit is housed behind stereo head unit. He was talking about digging it out and creating some more space back there.




Quite what he needed to "stash" behind his head unit I didn't dare ask!

I suppose i should have tried reading through the threads in this and the ICE section first. Been a long day and finished work a couple of hours ago so thought i would take the easy option and put a post on here. It would be great to remove old unit and facia to find control unit sitting there! I do know that various posts have said that the space behind the headunit is tight and assumed that the unit wouldn't be there. I wasn't going to bother with the Oracle but after a trips to Liverpool and Hampshire in the past two weeks and being stuck on motorways......

I've got a SAT NAV in my car that's coming at the end of the month and I must admit I was dissapointed to find out in a post I put up that the TM Oracle and SAT NAV aren't integrated.

Yes, this does mean that they will argue with eachother, not directly of course, but 1 of the 2 women living in the dash will direct you blindly to the jam, and the other will forewarn you of impending doom. If you deviate to avoid doom, the 1st woman will get very upset and confused and try her damnest to keep reminding you that you should turn around

As the SAT NAV has a manual "avoid area" function, I'm sure it is possible to interface the two units with some software and a PCB. I know a couple of people with these skills and I'm going to investigate. I think I can get my head round the software bit if I can find the deeper technical details of the two units on-line somewhere.

Indeed i do wish you luck! i know from experience how one woman
 ( Nothing to do with TM or SAT NAV ) can confuse you with directions as you drive! ha ha. Oh well, i have plenty of time till i attempt the changeover of radio units so i will wait to see if i get any more replies.

My Trafficmaster is above the brake pedal on my '99 elite. It's tied to the heater ducting just above the cover.

Small metal box, bit bigger than a cigarette packet. Two connectors and a BNC aerial socket.

If the licence has expired, just press the switch twice in quick succession. The unit will speak a six-digit licence code.

Although the voice is female, it sounds like Stephen Hawking's wife.

We've tried this, but to be honest, as he's not running a factory fitted head unit, someone may not have bothered reconnecting this TM unit into the replacement audio head unit, so the lady is silenced.

The TM is in a small Silver Box that sits somewhere behind the Drivers Dash (but dont ask me where). its interfaced with the VX Head Unit by pluging its self into the back of the HU and the the HU rear leads are pluged into the back of the TM leads (ie Piggy backed and comes up with MESSAGE on the MID).

Theres a good chance that who ever has installed the Sony HU has either removed the Plug in part or has used a Sony to VX lead converter that not complatable with the TM.

Its not controlled by the Steering Controls but by pushing the TM button a number of times.

Depending on which model you have subscription is either £25 or £30 a year (well worth it I use mine all the time) and you'll save that in petrol.

TM do a Sat Nav thats intergrated with their own Traffic Master system, but its old hat now (black and white screen etc).

I think I'm correct in saying that TM have now been awarded the TMC / Sat Nav contract for the UK, so things should improve for the future.

Thanx all for the info. As i have said i already have the switch on the dash just above the headlight controls. I have purchased another trafficmaster unit and control leads from e-bay for a princely sum of £8 just in case when i replace the headunit some kind soul removed it when fitting the sony unit. If the old unit is still there i will resell. Thanx again.

Just a thought you say you are going to fit an aftermarket head unit, I am pretty sure unless you buy an adapter your traffic master will not work as it uses the radio to announce warnings to you . I know I had to buy two adapters one for steering control and one for the remote display to be able to fit my kenwood unit and keep these option s

Presumably the pillock who put in the stupid headunit has ripped out all the Bose stuff.  I likely will not be a simple task.
