anyone removed the cats from a v6 to free up a couple more bhp? when i had a rover 800 vetesse  some companys sold de cat kits (2 flanges and pipe in the middle) just wondered if anything was avalable? yes i know the legal implecation (its my job) so the omega would be presented for test as standard :exclamation

I know you could do it on the Senators, just had to pop the cats back on for the MOT.

Not sure on the Omega, not known many people to have done it. I think it will affect the sensors before and after the cats....

2.5/3.0 only have post cat sensors.  I assume the decatters will know if this is an issue, and how to overcome it

oxygen sensors were retained on the rover with no problems, we did a live data stream on the sensor and cat removal didnt make much differance the sensor still worked within its range. i guess later v6 engines with pre/post cat sensors on each bank may be a problem?

i have no cats on mine and full stainless ex !! no probs except to change it all at mot time !! sounds really nice though !! :y :y

Hi,
from my experience your consumption will increase a bit..

Not visible powergain..(Unless the car was modded to higher HPs)

And you will get the low RPM torque from  higher revs..

In case they are not blocked (they cant be blocked easily even on an old car) no gains except increased consumption.. :(

shoudnt say this but we have had the odd car in the workshop with a blocked cat and, to save the owner some money we remove the cat, remove the ceramic brick in the middle of the cat then refit!! mondeo and corsa spring to mind. ;)

Conventional single (per bank) oxygen sensors are there to control the fuel mixture and it will make no difference if a cat is fitted, as long as the sensors are retained and mounted in the exhaust.

Where post-cat oxygen sensors are fitted they are behind a small pre-cat which would need to be retained. The main cat, which follows this, could be removed. The pre-cat may even render the emissions acceptable for MOT purposes as the emissions are not tested under load. :-/

Modern cats, if in good condition, are not very restrictive so I'd say it's doubtful if it would be worth the hassle putting them back on for MOT every year.
